Gluu Announces Plantronics as the First Sponsor of the “A-Loft” App Inventor Program for Kids
Austin, TX – March 8, 2013 – Gluu, an Austin based start-up, announced today that leading headset manufacturer, Plantronics, will be the first project sponsor of Gluu’s newly launched “A-Loft” App Inventor Club. Children between the ages of 7 and 12 will be able to put their programming skills to work and build mobile apps that help their community.
The first A-Loft team project, which will be worked on from January 20th until March 9th, 2013, will incorporate voice, animation, and web API programming to build a simple version of a popular consumer app.
“I’m extremely excited to welcome Plantronics as the A-Loft’s first project sponsor,” said Mike Schwartz, Gluu CEO and A-Loft “Sensei”. “Plantronics has some really cool technology, and it’s wonderful when industry experts can share their knowledge with the next generation.”
The goal of the A-Loft is to introduce kids of different levels to computer programming concepts and how they can be applied to solve real world problems. The program includes MIT App Inventor, a “block programming” platform that enables kids (and adults) to create cool Android apps without ever writing a line of code.
“When we heard about the App Inventor program Mike and Gluu were hosting, we jumped at the opportunity to get involved,” said Mike Holmlund, software product marketing manager at Plantronics. “In addition to helping children learn about coding concepts, sponsoring the A-Loft App Inventor program will display the ease of integrating and programming with the Plantronics API.”
Plantronics is offering some cool gadgets to help the project. There will be a demonstration to showcase the students’ work on Friday 3/8, during the weekend of SXSW Interactive festival at the Golab Co-Work center.
